video/ dance

After meeting dance video artist, Ana Baer Carrillo, in the summer of 2004, and realizing a shared synergistic working and visioning aesthetic, Olson and Baer embarked upon a series of dance video collaborations. Sharing a desire to create in raw, unsuspecting spaces, Olson and Baer have now created five experimental dance video projects.

These have toured internationally via the San Souci Festival of Dance Cinema, and company performances of kim olson/sweet edge. Each piece is created to stand alone as a video work and also exist as a projected environment for live dance. All of the works are shot in public spaces, creating an intriguing, evolving process whereby the shooting of the dance for video creates a live performance/installation event.

Baer’s eye for texture, chronological and deconstructive layering, unveiling, perfectly meld with Olson’s impulse to develop movement contextually -where situations and challenges, extremes, drive movement response, awakening a body’s innate sensibilities and thus revealing a raw, primal aspect of our nature.

The resulting works are uniquely visually and viscerally stunning collaborations of dance and video, each propelled by an inner mission to expose and relay a most devastating and fragile poetic beauty.
