sweet edge is a modern company with a flare for entanglement - of body, personal definition and the un-uttered perspective. Olson draws inspiration from extremes of daily circumstance and the psychological journey to find balance in a world of beauty and devastation, the continual unearthing of chaos and choice. Olson’s reputation is for a style viscerally explosive and technically commanding in which the performers take on risk and abandon in interactions of crashing force and intensity.
sweet edge has performed in festivals and independent venues in Asia, Canada, Central America, Europe Mexico, the US, and the United Kingdom. The company has collaborated with a myriad of artists, such as: poet Mary Kite, composer Mark Deutsch, composer Randy Gibson, fashion designer and artist Paula Hutman, writer and film maker Nikki Widner and video dance artist Ana Baer-Carrillo, among others.
Founded in 2001 by Choreographer and Artistic Director kim olson, formerly with the Stephen Petronio Company, sweet edge is a 501(c)3 non-profit arts organization, and is an affiliate member of the Boulder County Arts Alliance, Mariposa Collective, Dance USA, Colorado Dance Alliance, Think 360, and the International Council on Dance. sweet edge has received funding through private donors, Boulder County Arts Alliance, Boulder Arts Commission, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, and by the National Endowment for the Arts (via Dance USA, for performances at international tanzmesse nrw).
